The Montana Department of Revenue’s website, revenue.mt.gov, offers information about a variety of tax-related subjects and electronic filing options, including state tax forms that can be electronically filed for free. For tax year 2011, taxpayers can electronically file these tax forms directly on the department’s website at no cost:
2EZ, individual short form
2M, individual intermediate form
2, individual long form
2EC, elderly homeowner/renter credit form
PR-1, partnership form
CLT-4, corporation form
CLT-4S, small business corporation form
FID, estates and trusts (fiduciary) form
In addition, employers can electronically file the annual Montana withholding report (MW3) directly on the department’s website for free.
A “one-stop” website, MontanaFreeFile.org, offers taxpayers information on free electronic filing options and volunteer tax preparation sites for both federal and state income taxes. The website is sponsored by a partnership of government and non-profit entities—including the Montana Department of Revenue, Montana’s Credit Unions, Montana Legal Services Association, Rural Dynamics, Inc. and Opportunity Link. AARP Tax-Aide Montana is lending support to the project.
