Remarks of Governor Judy Martz
Charlie Russell Riders
Bozeman, Montana
September 10, 2001

Welcome to Big Sky Country! We are delighted you're here to visit us.

I just cannot thank you enough for the privilege and opportunity to be with you in Bozeman tonight.

From the vast prairies to the tree covered slopes, my 900,000 neighbors and I, genuinely hope that your schedule allows you to spend additional time in Montana enjoying some of our wonderful vistas.

I've been so impressed by the Charlie Russell Riders. Your work with both the CM Russell Museum as well as the museum of the Rockies is incredibly valuable.

I hope you know how much Montana appreciates your efforts to preserve the great outdoors and the colorful past of the West.

The respected work of one of Montana's greatest and most talented citizens, Charlie Russell, is obviously a recipient of your investment of time and energy.

I don't have to tell you about this man, because you're very familiar with his powers of portraying our history.

Montanans are very proud of Charlie Russell. He depicted the West in terms that were both accurate and fair. With his paintbrush, he's drawn us a map to travel back into time - to a place that was one of the biggest paradoxes.

Life on the frontier a hundred years ago was simple and pure, yet brutal and incredibly complex. But the history of our forefathers is not one we ever want to forget, and Charlie Russell makes it possible for us to always remember.

Regardless of class, wealth, race or creed everyone can enjoy the art of this great man. Your efforts are certainly part of that. I thank you.

Please, take pleasure in what our state and its attractions have in store for you. Let us know what we can do to make your stay in the Treasure State even better when you come back.

Thank you for all of your help. I hope you enjoy your stay. God Bless.
