Martz Names New Chief of Staff

Today Governor-Elect Judy Martz named the second member of her new administration with the appointment of Ed Bartlett as Chief of Staff.

"Karl Ohs and I are pleased that Ed has agreed to accept this position. Ed and I have known each other nearly 20 years, and he's a trusted friend," Martz said. "The Chief of Staff position is critical in my successfully fulfilling my duties in leading the State of Montana, and Ed's vast experience in a variety areas will be a tremendous asset."

A native of Butte, Bartlett is past president of the Montana State Bar as well as a director of the Montana Chamber of Commerce, the Western Environmental Trade Association, and the Montana Petroleum Association. He is also a member of the House of Delegates of the University of Montana Alumni Association and a member of the Board of Visitors of the University of Montana Law School.

"Ed and I've worked together on a variety of community projects in Butte including the High Altitude Sports Center where I was the director and Ed was the Board Secretary," Martz said, "and our daughters played basketball together for years."

For the past 18 years, he's worked on the staff of the Montana Power Company, most recently as the Director of Governmental Affairs. He has also worked as an attorney in the Department of Interior and later as an Assistant U. S. Attorney.

"Not only do I work well with Ed, but he's also well-known and respected among legislators and businesspeople across the state," Martz said. "He'll be a tremendous asset to the Martz-Ohs Administration, and I look forward to working with him in the upcoming weeks as we build our staff."

Bartlett's wife, Marilyn, is controller of the AZ & Company (a CPA firm) in Helena, and the President of the Montana Society of Certified Public Accountants. He has two daughters.
