GOVERNOR JUDY MARTZ ISSUES PROCLAMATION CALLING FOR GOVERNMENT-TO-GOVERNMENT CONSULTATION WITH MONTANA TRIBESFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE BOX ELDER, MONTANA - Governor Judy Martz today continued her efforts to reach out to Native Americans by issuing a proclamation calling for government-to-government consultation between the state and the sovereign nations. Promised in her State of the State Address, the proclamation includes input received from the Montana-Wyoming Tribal Leaders Council. In her proclamation, the governor cited that "Montana's Indian Nations and the State of Montana share many common goals such as quality education for all children, economic stability, clean environment, strong and healthy families and the preservation of their respective culture and values." Martz was on the Rocky Boy Reservation to tour facilities and meet with tribal members to discuss issues of importance to them. She is visiting all the reservations this summer - another promise made during her State of the State in January. Martz indicated that her Administration normally doesn't issues proclamations, but "because I am so committed to building a positive and productive relationship with tribal members, I wanted them to know with a proclamation from my heart that we will work together to improve opportunities and quality of life on Montana reservations." Former Governor Marc Racicot issued a similar proclamation when he took office in 1993. # # # |
