"While it is with regret that I accept Mike's resignation, I am very happy for him and the opportunity that he has been offered," said Governor Martz. "Mike has been an excellent chief policy advisor and a true friend. I wish him well in his new capacity and know that he will continue serve the people of Montana with the same commitment dedication. He will be missed by the Martz/Ohs team."
Since 1982, Foster has served in state government in a variety of capacities. First named as Labor Commissioner for the Martz Administration in 2001, Foster also served on the Governor's personal staff as Legislative Liaison and Acting Communications Director prior to becoming Chief Policy Advisor. During the 1990's, Foster served in both the Montana House of Represenatives and the Senate, where he held the position of Majority Whip in 1997.
"This has been a very difficult decision for me because I have greatly enjoyed working for you in various capacities," Foster expressed in his letter to Governor Martz. "Being a public servant is both an honorable and rewarding endeavor, and I hope that my efforts on your behalf have been beneficial to you, your administration, and the people of Montana."
Foster will be continuing in the Governor's Office through the special legislative session and taking his new position in Billings on August 19, 2002.
