Governor Martz Announces Applicants for Board of Public Education
Vacancy

HELENA - Governor Judy Martz today announced the three applicants she
will
be interviewing to fill the vacancy on the Montana Board of Public
Education. The vacancy is created as Board Member Joyce Silverthorne
completes her tenure on the Board.

"Very qualified people have applied to fill this position," Governor
Martz
stated. "Joyce has served the schools of Montana admirably. This is a
very
important board that does critical work to make our schools stronger.
I am
confident that the newest member of the board will continue to ensure
the
students of Montana receive a world class education."

The appointment will be made in time for the March 11-12 Board meeting
in
Helena. The applicants that Governor Martz will be interviewing are:

* Mary Jo Bremner, a social studies teacher at Browning Public Schools.
A
former social worker in both Browning and Billings, Bremner holds a
Bachelor
of Science from MSU-Billings in both Secondary Education and Vocational
Rehabilitation and a Master of Education from the University of Montana
in
Curriculum and Instruction.

* Forrestina M. Calf Boss Ribs, an elementary school teacher for Heart
Butte
School District. An educator since 1984, Calf Boss Ribs holds an
Associate
of Arts from Blackfeet Community College in Elementary Education and a
Bachelor of Arts from the University of Montana in Elementary Education.

* Cal Gilbert, a school administrator at Longfellow Elementary in Great
Falls. A former director of Indian Education for Great Falls Public
Schools,
Gilbert holds a Bachelor of Science from the College of Great Falls in
Elementary Education and a Master of Education from the University of
Great
Falls in Elementary Administration.

The Board of Public Education was created by the Montana Constitution of
1972 to exercise general supervision over the elementary and secondary
schools of the state. The Board consists of seven members appointed by
the
Governor and confirmed by the Senate to staggered seven-year terms.
