Governor Martz Issues Statement in Reaction Attorney General's
Decision to Join Snowmobile Litigation

HELENA - Governor Judy Martz today issued the following statement in reaction to Attorney General Mike McGrath's decision to accept her request to represent Montana in joining the state of Wyoming in litigation to end the ban on snowmobiles in Yellowstone National Park. The representation by the Attorney General's Office will come in the form of managing local Wyoming counsel in the legal process.

"I am very pleased that Attorney General McGrath has accepted my request to represent Montana as the manager of the Wyoming snowmobile case in conjunction with local counsel in Wyoming. It is my hope that the litigation will ensure recreationists have snowmobile access to Yellowstone National Park. The snowmobile industry is very important to the economic survival of many Montana businesses. We must maintain a careful balance to preserve the aesthetic beauty of the park while upholding the right of citizens to enjoy that beauty. I look forward to working with the Attorney General and the state of Wyoming to find a solution to this situation."
