Governor Judy Martz appointed Havre attorney David George Rice to fill the vacant 12th Judicial District, consisting of Hill, Choteau, and Liberty Counties.
"I am pleased to appoint David tothis important position," said Governor Martz. "Our local judiciary is the foundation upon which our legal system is built. I know that David's long and distinguished legal career in Havre, both in private practice and in the County Attorney's Office equips him to be ane xcellent judge for the people of north central Montana."
Rice is a graduate of Conrad High School and graduated with honors from Concordia College with a degree in English. In 1970, he earned his law degree from the University of Montana School of Law in Missoula. Since that time, he has worked in Havre both in private practice and as the Hill County Attorney since 1986.
"I am both honored and humbled to be selected by Governor Martz," said Rice. "I wasn't much of an athlete in high school, but for once, being benched feels good. I appreciate the Governor's confidence in me and the support I have received from my family, friends and colleagues."
Rice and his wife, Linda, have two children and two grandchildren. Rice will be sworn in by his predecessor, Montana Supreme Court Associate Justice, John Warner, on August 25 at the Hill County Courthouse in Havre.
