HELENA - The Core Group of the Montana K-12 Public School Renewal Commission authorized by HB 736 has announced that they will meet July 11, 2003, at 9:00 AM in the Governor's Reception Room at the State Capitol. HB 736, cosponsored by all four legislative caucus leaders, mandates the commission bring proposals in public school policy to the 2005 legislative session.
The Core Group will lead the commission, identify governmental agencies needed for assistance, and select the 10-25 entities whose representatives will make up the remainder of the commission. The Core Group is made up of:
* Lt. Governor Karl Ohs from the Office of the Governor
* Superintendent Linda McCulloch from the Office of Public Instruction
* Chairman Kirk Miller from the Montana Board of Public Education
* Representative Holly Raser, Speaker of the House Doug Mood, Senate President Bob Keenan and Senator Don Ryan from each of the four legislative caucuses
The full commission is expected to have an initial meeting before August. The commission will then have until September 15, 2004, to announce its proposals to the 59th Legislative Session.
