The following outlines Registered
Nurse licensing information by endorsement. For specific information on
filing an application, you will need to obtain the
license
application which includes a detailed listing of the requirements.
A. Application Fee:

B. Education Requirements:

An applicant for a license
to practice as a registered professional nurse shall submit to the
department written evidence, that the applicant:
- Has successfully completed
at least an approved 4-year high school course of study or the
equivalent as determined by the office of the superintendent of
public instruction;
- Has completed the basic
professional curriculum in an approved school of nursing verified
by official transcript.

An applicant for a license
to practice as a registered professional nurse is required to pass National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCLEX) RN exam, or a Board
approved licensing exam. On successfully passing the examination,
an applicant shall be issued a license to practice professional
nursing.

The board shall establish
in its rules the requirements for rewriting the examination for
those persons failing the examination on the first writing and
subsequent writing.
Re-Examination: 8.32.404
- Candidates who fail the
licensing examination will be permitted to retake the examination
after 90 days. Effective October 1, 2000, a candidate may retake
the examinaton one time. If a candidate does not pass the retake,
the candidate will be required to present a plan of study to the
board before becoming eligible to take the examination again. A
candidate may take the test a maximum of five times in three years.
If a candidate does not pass the examination within three years,
the individual will be required to complete a school of nursing
program before being eligable to test a sixth time.

E. Renewal Period:

The license under Chapter
37-8-431 must be renewed on the date set by department rule.
The applicant shall carefully complete subscribe the application
form and return it to the department with a renewal fee prescribed
by the board on or before the renewal date.

On receipt of the completed
application and fee, the department shall verify the accuracy of
the application against its record and from other sources the board
considers reliable and issue to the applicant a certificate of
renewal. The certificate of renewal renders the holder a legal
practitioner of nursing for the period stated in the certificate
of renewal.

A licensee who allows
the license to lapse by failing to renew the license may be reinstated
by the board on satisfactory explanation for the failure to renew
license and on payment of the current renewal fee prescribed by
the board.

A person practicing nursing
during the time following the date the license has expired is an
illegal practitioner and is subject to the penalties provided for
violations of this chapter.

The board may establish
a reasonable late fee for licensees who fail to renew their license
by the renewal date.

Have the appropriate school
official send an official final transcript directly to the Board
verifying graduation from an accredited nursing exucation program
recognized by the Board which prepares for
the level of licensing being sought. The transcript must contain
the date of graduation and the credential conferred.

Important Information:
Temporary
and eligibility status will not be given until the Application is complete.
All requirements for licensure must be met prior to the expiraton date
on the temporary permit. There are NO extensions or renewal
of Temporary permits. Temporary permits expire on the 90-day expiration
dates or after receiving results of NCLEX, whichever comes first. |
